10th European Union Film Festival: Special December Screenings

2017.12.2 - 2017.12.10

Cinema Arts
Location:  Auditorium
Language:  Various languages with Chinese subtitles

Following the October European Union film screenings of How to Talk to Girls at Parties and Coherence, UCCA again collaborates with the European Union and JUST Fantasy Base to present five film screenings in December. In Portuguese film Porto, director Gabe Klinger pays tribute to love, film fans, and Anton Yeltsin, famous for his role in the Star Trek reboot series. Liberation Day focuses on "the 21st century's most fascinating cultural event," a rock concert held in North Korea, and was nominated for Best Feature Length Film at the Latvian National Film Awards. Just Go! was inspired by a true story about a young man who has lost both legs in an accident, fighting for the girl he loves when she becomes a victim of a crime, and won the Audience Award for Best Short during the 2017 Stony Brook Film Festival. Jimmy On the Run tells the tale of a street fashion photographer from Amsterdam. Guardians of the Earth follows 20,000 climate change negotiators in Paris who are trying to save our planet. Both Guardians of the Earth director Filip Anton Malinowski and Porto director Gabe Klinger will engage in Q&A’s with the audience after the screenings of their respective films.

As an art institution with an international outlook, UCCA seeks to promote cultural exchange by means of film screenings, frequently collaborating with cultural centers such as the French, Canadian, Australian, Austrian, and Dutch embassies, as well as the European Union, Goethe Institute, and French Institute of China. UCCA also organizes a number of series of domestic and international film screenings, along with related activities.
