Film Synopsis

35 Rhums

2008, Claire Denis, 100 minutes

In her film 35 Rhums, Claire Denis pays homage to Japanese master Yasujiro Ozu. The movie’s protagonist, a man fond of drinking, has a unique habit: downing 35 shots of rum to commemorate each memorable occasion in his life. 35 Rhums portrays the life of an ordinary father and his daughter living in a black suburban community of Paris. The film depicts their devotion to each other and their everyday experience without dramatic climax and excessive sentimentality.
