ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Presently, half the Chinese population now resides in cities and statistics show that by 2025 the urban population will increase by nearly 300 million. Cities now catalyze innovation and modernity. Over the roundtable discussions, French and Chinese architects, academics, and sociologists will exchange ideas on the theme "The building of tomorrow’s cities".

Roundtable 1: City and Architectural Design – Architecture as an Urban Act in the City (11:00 to 12:30)

In a world that’s becoming increasingly urbanized, what role should modern architectural design play in improving our living environment? Through a dialogue between French and Chinese contemporary architects, this roundtable aims at analyzing this question on various scales.

Roundtable 2: City and Society – Communities and Identities, Driving Forces of our Territories (14:00 to 15:30)

What major social challenges are Chinese cities facing today and how private and public stakeholders respond to these challenges. This roundtable aims at addressing some of these issues such as heritage conservation, social housing and the elderly.

Roundtable 3: City and Innovation – New Tools, New Practices for an Alternative City (15:45 to 17:15)

Which tools, techniques and practices do we have today to imagine tomorrow's city in a sustainable way ?

This roundtable will discuss green technologies, eco-labels, approaches to sustainable urban development and digital technologies as tools to conceive tomorrow's cities.

At 18:30, Mr. Liu Jiakun, Chief Architect of Jiakun Architects in Chengdu, will give a featured speech and present, through the example of his agency's achievements, his vision of contemporary Chinese architecture.
