The China Women's Film Festival was founded in 2013, with the third edition held from 19-27 September in Beijing. This year, the festival is linked with the Beijing+20 and HeforShe (a global initiative launched by UN Women which aims to mobilize men for gender equality). Films were selected based on two themes: women's rights and men's involvement in women's rights. The films are divided into six units: Focus on Sachi Hamano, Feminist Country: Sweden, Heforshe, Queer Women, Feminism, and Ending Violence and Discrimination Against Women. Director Liu Shu's Lotus will be screened at the opening ceremony. Other highlights include: Body Trouble by Sachi Hamano; Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock, a documentary on the American civil rights movement activist; The Woman of Wrath, a classic Taiwanese film on domestic violence; Mother and The Guardian Angel by Suzanne Osten; and A Balloon for Allah, an exploration of the role of women in Islam.
