Perfect Life tells the parallel stories of two girls, one who lives in the future and the other in the past. One lives in a small Dongbei town and dreams of finding better opportunities; the other has left her mainland home-town, and became a Hong Kong citizen through marriage. Their paths cross at some point but have no idea of the other’s existence. The film experiments with the documentary and fiction form, cross-cutting them to reveal parallels and contrasts within China’s new social and economic reality. Thefilm was short-listed for the Orizzonti Section, the Venice International Film Festival and announced the Winner of Dragon & Tigers Award in Vancouver. This month, Indie Film Forum present Perfect Life, following with discussion with Emily Tang.
