ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

The newest work from modern dancer Hou Ying, “Jie” is about blindness and aimlessness, a state of being ignorant of discovering the world. For Hou Ying, this process requires becoming re-acquainted with the body and senses, taking her new work of “Jie” as the example.

In this health workshop, Hou Ying will share with us her knowledge of the body – first a dialogue with self, then inter-personal dialogue to understand what it means to support, care for, and take responsibility, as well as how to make a dancing theater happen from a concept.
You do not need to be a dance professional to drop in. But please wear comfortable clothes.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Guest: Hou Ying (modern dance choreographer)

Hou Ying, modern dance choreographer, was named best dancer of the year by the New York Times in 2004. She devoted herself to the study and promotion of improv dance. Her name has appeared in New York Times for 3 times. She is said to be the Kafka of dance. Her dance is “like the clip of life, rarely making legends; getting rid of all the unnecessary motions, it looks calm, as if the characters in the work won’t be shaken by the trend however the world changes”.

She is one of the most outstanding dancers in the world nowadays. In 2001-2008, she worked as the director of rehearsing for Shen Wei Dance Art in New York, USA, and became the key figure of the dance troupe. As a dancer, she cooperated with Shen Wei on “Second Visit to the Empress”, “Spring Sacrifice”, “Folding”, “Touch and Convertion”, “Map”, which are Shen Wei’s 5 master works shaking the world.
