"Kentridge in Parallel" is a series of screenings running throughout the exhibition at UCCA that puts the artist's works into conversation with historical, formal, and social referents.
William Kentridge employs symbols throughout his films including water, fish, female bodies, and many others. The Korean director Kim Ki-duk also utilizes this kind of artistic expression in his productions. The fact that the two artists interpret the same symbols in different ways enables audiences to ponder the influence of their distinctive cultural backgrounds. The exhibition William Kentridge: Notes Towards a Model Opera will travel to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul at the conclusion of its run in Beijing.
