Not-for-profit art organizations encourage new artistic experimentation and ensure the constant vitality and diversity of art. Currently mainland China has reached a critical moment for their development. This talk will introduce outstanding not-for-profit independent art spaces from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe and Latin America, and give practitioners in China a better understanding of their motivations, the roles they play in their regional ecosystems, and their operational and curatorial strategies.

Anthony Yung

is co-founder of Observation Society, an independent art space in Guangzhou. Established in 2009, Observation Society is completely not-for-profit. It aims at developing new and experimental projects with artists, and encouraging understanding and critical discourses in contemporary art. Yung is also a senior researcher at Asia Art Archive.

Founded by art collector Mr. Wang Bing in early 2014, New Century Art Foundation (NCAF) aims to study and promote Chinese contemporary art. UCCA

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) is an independent, not-for-profit art center serving a global Beijing public.
