Yan Xing is an emerging artist in the Chinese contemporary art scene. His practice consists of multi-layered “projects” incorporating performance, video, photography, and installation, among other media. Through his extensive knowledge of art history, the artist has established a narrative world with its own internal logic.
On the occasion of Yan Xing’s major solo exhibition Recent Works at Galerie Urs Meile Beijing, UCCA invites the artist to give a talk and share his thoughts on his recent practice.
Yan Xing currently lives and works in Beijing, China and Los Angeles, USA. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2009. He has won the Chinese Contemporary Art Awards (CCAA) – Best Young Artist Award and was nominated for the Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s Future Generation Art Prize in 2012.
Yan’s recent group exhibitions include Building Bridges – Zeitgenössische Kunst aus China, Wolfsberg, Ermatingen, Switzerland (2013); China China, Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev, Ukraine (2013); and ON | OFF: China’s Young Artists in Concept and Practice, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA), Beijing, China (2013). His works have also been collected by the Rubell Family Collection, Miami, USA; M+ Museum for Visual Culture, Hong Kong; and Kadist Art Foundation, Paris, France.
