In the second MakerLAB, Elaine (TED Global Fellow) will introduce us to wearable technology, followed by a workshop held by Cheng Chen and Guo Chong about building your own light-up cycling jacket—the turn signal automatically lights up when you turn!

Lilypad:

LilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. Each LilyPad was creatively designed to have large connecting pads, allowing them to be sewn into clothing. Various input, output, power, and sensor boards are available. It is arduino compatible and washable.

Conductive thread:

Conductive thread is a creative way to connect various electronics onto clothing. This thread can carry current for power and signals. While not as conductive as traces on a printed circuit board (PCB), this thread makes wearable clothing 'wearable'!

Workshop Package Includes：

-- a spool of 4-ply conductive thread

-- a needle or two, a fabric marker or piece of chalk, puffy fabric paint, a bottle of fabric glue, and a ruler.

MakerLAB is a joint education program held by Beijing Makerspace and UCCA. The event is a series of workshops that celebrate the idea of making while learning, and the practice of combining technology, design and art. Every workshop consists of a 30-minute introduction and a 3-5 hour hands-on building experience on one selected project. The project could be done individually or in a team.

Workshops are suitable for all aged over 10.

Participants over 10 years old are all welcomed to join our Lab, but kids and teenagers under 16 should be accompanied by their parents.
