Yourcenar is commonly considered a humanist, however, a turning point of her focus after the 1940s is worth further comments. In her own words, her interest turns from archeology to geology. This reflects not only her understanding of the relationship between human beings and the nature, but also an important dimension to understanding the state of human existence.
