Katsura Kan (Choreographer, Japanese Butoh artist)
Katsura Kan is a veteran dancer from Kyoto, Japan. From 1979 to 1981, Katsura was a member of the Japanese Butoh group Byakkosha (one of the most influential dance groups under Hijikata Tatsumi’s system). In the past twenty years, he has been conducting research in Indonesia and Thailand. Katsura began to work and create in the Balkans in 2001. He is also a skilledchoreographer.
Du Yufang (Dancer, Artistic Director of White Fox Butoh)
Du Yufang graduated from the Department of Art Communication of Beijing Dance Academy. She was introduced to Butoh in 2010, becoming a student of Katsura Kan. In the same year, she started studying Chinese Medicine with Bai Liansheng. Since 2011, Du has been independently curating Butoh-related projects both in China and abroad. Du has also hosted individual dance performances in Europe. Since 2013, she has acted as Katsura’s teaching and performing partner, engaging in collaborative creations with Butoh artists from various countries. She founded performance group White Fox Butoh in 2014 and is its artistic director.
White Fox Butoh
White Fox Butoh was founded by Chinese dancer Du Yufang in 2014. Since 2016, its members pay biannual visits to Kyoto, studying the Kongo school of Noh. The training system of White Fox Butoh is based on that of Kan, which explores the deep democracy of the physical and the subconscious.
