Between 21 June and 6 July, the Mercator Salon will explore the topic of “the future” in four discussion events. The series of salons will particularly focus on differences and common ground in the understanding of the concept of “the future” in Europe and China. Four aspects will play a major role in the discussion.
What type of education and upbringing makes people in modern societies “future-ready”? What determines a society’s readiness for the future? How great is in fact the influence of education and upbringing on the way individuals cope in their future lives? During this salon, we intend to highlight the differences in terms of the role and expectations of education and upbringing in the two societies.
