ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Ullens Center for Contemporary Art 5 Year Anniversary

November 1, Beijing

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art will be celebrating its fifth anniversary in November 2012. At this moment marking the culmination of five years, UCCA is delighted to take this opportunity to reflect on the museum's growth and development as well share its hopes and plans for the future with the corporate partners, museum visitors, artists, and distinguished figures it has welcomed from around the world.

During the 5 years (60 months, 1,440 opening days, 12,960 operation hours) since its founding in November of 2007, UCCA has held over 70 exhibitions, organized over 1000 educational and cultural public programs, and welcomed over three million visitors. With a wide range of rich, thought-provoking exhibitions, UCCA has become a vanguard within the worlds of art, design, and culture—an institution wholly devoted to the promotion of Chinese contemporary art. Additionally, as an all-inclusive public art center, UCCA acts as an international cultural conduit by providing new ideas and creative possibilities to the general public through an ambitious educational events calendar.

"UCCA has a bright future," CEO May Xue commented in anticipation of the fifth anniversary. UCCA recently announced the opening of its new main entrance, designed by internationally acclaimed Chinese architect Yung Ho Chang and incorporating UCCA's new logo, conceived by Bruce Mau Design. The goal to "reframe and reform" is the inspiration for the metal frames that make up the new entrance, and concept behind the four letters which they house. A fusion of architecture and contemporary art, of geometry and abstraction, UCCA's new entrance reflects the industrial environment of historic 798 Art District. “Now more than ever, UCCA remains committed to its founding ideals of providing an open space for contemporary art and culture in China,” says Director Philip Tinari.

UCCA's new website has also gone live, welcoming art and culture lovers to get connected and involved. Users will soon be able to quickly and conveniently RSVP for education events and purchase tickets online.

Celebrations 6

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) ushered in its 5th year this November and has taken this occasion to look back at a long journey of progress and mark the point of a new beginning.

Over the past 5 years, UCCA has established itself as a leading platform for Chinese artists and international exchange—a conduit for contemporary Chinese culture abroad. With more than 70 exhibitions and thousands of education and public programs, UCCA has welcomed more than 300 million visitors from around the world.

On November 20, UCCA held its 5th anniversary gala dinner and after party, as friends joined Guy and Myriam Ullens in celebrating UCCA’s achievements and sharing their hopes for the future. The gala dinner was catered exclusively for UCCA by Brasserie FLO, wine pairings were provided by Martell, and the night’s artistic direction came from the acclaimed Shanghai-based MadeIn Company.
