In our May MakerLAB, robot expert Nille and illustrator Chen Si will be showing us how to assemble small robots that walk like penguins – movements that can be controlled through a smartphone app! Participants are invited to bring cartons, tin boxes, and even drinks bottles for making their robot’s body with, and will be able to customize their robot as they go.
About the Technology:
Steering Gear
The steering engine, orservo-motor, is the most common movement component in small robots. It provides much more power than its small size suggests. The engine works at any angle from 0 to 180, andcan be developed into a high-performance, digitally-controlled, speed-adjustable gear motor.
3D Printing
3D printing is a process of making a three-dimensional object in virtually any shape from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using an incremental process, where successive layers of materials are set down in different shapes.
